The Coast

The first half of today consisted of traveling east along the coast. The weather was pleasantly dry unlike yesterday so I left the rain gear in the pannier.

Around Brighton the coastal cycle route is on a spacious seaside boulevard which was largely empty so I progressed rapidly. That after nineteen days of mostly hilly terrain it felt almost strange riding in the flat again.

The Seven Sisters, limestone cliffs on the shore, were visible from far away. I climbed up the one closest to Seaford to enjoy the stunning panorama for a while before I continued north.

South Downs

Returning to the South Downs national park I passed the horse "drawing" on a hilltop near Alfriston. From that point on the route became noticably hillier. Toward Heathfield I once again fell into the old rhythm of steep climbs and descents passing from one valley to the next one. My destination for the day, Crowborough, had the tallest of all of them just before the arrival at the B&B for the night.
