Goodbye to the Coast

This coast is unforgiving. I am going to miss it. More than 1700 m elevation gain in just over 100 km -- a trip to the beach turned challenge. From tomorrow on I will be heading east.

Squat Lobster

Had a chat with the chips guy in Applecross who used to work in fishing. Apparently there is a particular kind of lobster, the "Squat lobster", that is the secret of the local cuisine. For some reason only its tail is edible. Was he bullshitting me? Need to look that up next time I have wifi.

Pure Natural Beauty

The west coast of Scotland just keeps on giving. The road between Kinlochewe and Torridon that I rode today passes through some of the most stunning scenery I have seen. Then the coastal route with its view on Skye -- the spectacular finale of a rewarding day in the saddle. I passed numerous hiking paths that start near the road ot cross it. Next time around a combined biking and hiking trip? Sounds like a plan!
